Do you love history? Do you wish to keep it alive? Do you like storytelling? Come join us and tell about the oldest house in McKinney, share the history of Collin County and McKinney through our weekly and scheduled guided tours.

Volunteer to be a Docent (tour guide) to lead tours of the Historic Home Museums on Thursdays and/or Saturdays at 11:00 am. Learn the stories of the families that lived in the historic homes and pass on their history to visitor's that come to take a tour. No experience is required. Docents receive full training, including a docent manual with the history of the families that lived in the homes, tours with experienced docents and mock tours with the Chestnut Square Tour Manager.


Requirements:

  • Village Tours are on Thursday and Saturday from 10:45 am to 12:15 pm and Friday from 12:45pm-2:45pm.

  • Background check required and we support the cost.

  • Observe at least two group tours with an experienced docent

  • Conduct a mock tour with the Chestnut Square Museum Director before you begin leading tours on your own.


Preferred skills:

  • Well-spoken, speak clearly and animated

  • Opportunity to work private tours

  • Opportunity to be a docent for School Tours

Inclement Weather Plan: If it's raining all houses have large front porches and large umbrellas are provided for the short walk between the houses. Tours are canceled for icy conditions. Five of the nine houses are air conditioned.
