Description

This group began meeting in June of 2024. Every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month, Trinity Presbyterian Church of McKinney hosts a "plarn workshop". Plarn stands for plastic yarn (which is made from plastic grocery bags). We're a mix of church members and community members and it's a lot of fun! Together, we socialize for a couple of hours while flattening bags, cutting strips and looping the strips together into a ball of plarn, which then gets crocheted into a sleeping mat. We are in need of more people who know how to crochet, and we will teach you how to work with the plarn. We're thrilled with any and all helpers who want to come and be part of the group and help with any of the above tasks which means you don't have to crochet if that's not your strong suit!

Please sign up to let us know you're coming. We meet from about 9:30am to 12pm in a classroom that is located closest to the west side parking lot of our building so it's recommended to park on the west side and enter through the doors with steps and a ramp leading to them. You can always come later or leave earlier as your schedule permits, this is a very easygoing and fun group.

The completed sleeping mats are distributed through Streetside Showers in McKinney to be given to the homeless, and we would love to be able to increase our output as the need for these mats also increases. To date, we have given out over 70 sleeping mats to the homeless. Thank you for your interest and we look forward to meeting you!
