Who We Are

Camp Summit is a one-of-a-kind camp for individuals with disabilities where the emphasis is on the campers' abilities rather than their disabilities. Traditional camp activities are adapted to each individual and are provided in our barrier-free facilities and implemented by trained, caring staff. Our campers are grouped by age, providing the opportunity to make friends within peer groups while having fun and experiencing new adventures.

Our campers may be physically challenged, developmentally delayed, dual-sensory impaired, or have multiple disabilities.  We welcome all campers, regardless of the severity of their disabilities or their ability to pay.  As long as we can medically meet their needs, they are welcome at camp.

Camp Summit is located in Paradise, Texas, just north of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex on 460 acres of land. We are accredited by the American Camp Association and licensed as a Youth Camp in the State of Texas.

What We Do

The mission of Camp Summit is to provide barrier-free outdoor experiences that promote personal growth and foster independence for children and adults with disabilities.

Camp Summit’s legacy began as Camp Soroptimist in 1947, as one of the earliest camps for campers with disabilities. Founded by Soroptimist International of Dallas, Camp Soroptimist began as a service project benefiting campers with special needs.

The first camp was one week long and included 19 young girls with disabilities.  In the second year, the camp was opened to both male and female campers, and more than doubled the number of campers served.  Over the years we have been able to continually expand our programs to serve more campers with year-round camp sessions.  We are proud to say that we now serve thousands of campers every year.
