JOW - Juneteenth Organization of Wylie

  • Arts & Culture

Who We Are

An organization formed by citizens of Wylie to create Art, Culture, Health, and Literacy events to educate residents and celebrate the Juneteenth National Holiday and its unique Texas history; and to offer other year round cultural events celebrating the diversity in the Wylie community. We seek to educate, support, and partner with the City of Wylie and its residents to bring more events focusing on diversity and inclusion of underrepresented groups within the City of Wylie.

What We Do

Juneteenth Organization of Wylie also know as JOW plans the Wylie Juneteenth Festival in partnership with the City of Wylie. The festival and its JOW events are planned and accomplished annually through the hard work of a small but dedicated volunteer committee consisting of local Wylie residents, who joined together with the City of Wylie to educate and celebrate the rich history of our road to freedom. This nationally recognized holiday is especially important to Texans, as it marks the day that the institution of slavery was finally abolished in all states. As an organization we honor our rich history with cultural & community events for Wylie residents.
