Hugs Cafe is in need of job coaches to work with our staff with intellectual and developmental disabilities at the cafe. Duties involve shadowing the employee while they perform their job at the cafe and assisting in light kitchen prep work.

This position is ideal for someone who would like to work weekly at our cafe and make an impact in the lives of adults with special needs.

Hugs Cafe, Inc. is looking for volunteers on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am-3pm at our new Training Academy site at Dallas College in Farmers Branch. Volunteers will help students who have intellectual and developmental disabilities gain skills to work in the restaurant industry.  No cooking experience needed. There will be a short training in available via zoom or on site at Dallas College.  A background check will be required for volunteers. 

Hugs Cafe is offering delivery for catering orders. We are looking for volunteers that are willing to help us deliver orders throughout Collin County and, occasionally, Dallas. Deliveries will be picked up at the cafe in downtown McKinney and driven to the company or community partner that has placed the order. By delivering meals that our teammates make, you're helping in our mission to provide meaningful training and employment for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. 

We have expanded Hugs Café, Inc. to now include Hugs Training Academy; an educational training center for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities seeking employment in the food service and hospitality industries.

As a volunteer of Hugs Training Academy, your role is to support the students as requested by the Lead Teacher or Teacher Assistant. The purpose of having a volunteer is to provide detailed oversight on the quality of work being performed by the student and to offer prompts and suggestions to encourage the correct performance of the task at hand. During lunch, volunteers sit with the Hugs Training Academy students and socialize. 

Training Academy Volunteer Requirement: You must read the Food Handlers Course online and take the test. The website is www.learn2serve.com. You must complete the test successfully BEFORE you begin volunteering.
