Join our Deep Clean Team to help create a fresh and comfortable living environment for young adults transitioning out of foster care or experiencing homelessness. Every quarter, volunteers will assist with deep cleaning and organizing to ensure our two transitional homes remain well-maintained and welcoming for both current and future residents.

This is a great opportunity for groups looking to make a direct impact in the lives of young adults who need stability and support. Your help ensures they have a clean and safe place to focus on their future.

The room readiness team will be in charge of preparing rooms for new residents. Each room will need to be deep cleaned from the previous resident, as well as redecorated. We would love for each resident to move into new bedding as they begin their fresh start.  This is a great group project.

Celebration team members will plan and facilitate various celebrations for residents throughout the year. This consists, but is not limited to, birthdays, school graduations, and program graduations. An example of a birthday celebration would consist of bringing a card/gift and cake to a class night to celebrate that resident’s birthday. 

Purpose

At Jim Riley Outreach (JRO), we firmly believe that mentors are a key component to the success of our residents. There are multiple studies that show the importance of this relationship. We see our mentors as the main way to connect our residents with members of the community. These connections will become a support system to help our young women and men grow and sustain them both now and in the future.

Expectations

As a faith-based program, we do ask that our mentors have a strong faith. We also ask that our mentors commit to their mentee for the full length that he/she is in the program, up to two years. The monthly expectations of mentors are to connect with their mentees for a total of six hours a month. The time commitment encompasses the twice a month ‘Mentor Nights” on Tuesday nights, as well as other calls/texts throughout the month. We want our mentors to establish trust, maintain confidentiality, and provide guidance and encouragement, as well as share personal experiences and perspectives with their mentees. Our hope is that our mentors are with our young adults for life. The goal would be that your mentee would be invited in to be a part of your family life: that these relationships remain a support system to them long after their time here.

Jim Riley Outreach is seeking an enthusiastic and organized Silent Auction Coordinator to lead our fundraising efforts for future events. Your skills and expertise will play a vital role in helping us provide essential support to young individuals facing homelessness.

Jim Riley Outreach operates two transitional living homes located in Plano, TX. Blake's House is our program for young women, and His House is our program for young men between the ages of 18-22.

The holiday team will plan and facilitate various holidays for residents throughout the year. This team will mainly work around Thanksgiving and Christmas, but there may be other events. Ideally, the holiday team would work to provide a meal for each holiday (mainly Thanksgiving and Christmas) and help coordinate Christmas presents for each of our residents during that season. 

The specialized repair team consists of individuals skilled in a specific area that Blake’s House and His House can call when needs arise - which can be somewhat of an urgent nature. Volunteers in this area will ideally have experience with any of the following categories: general handyman knowledge, electricity, plumbing,  appliance repair, and ac/heater repair.

Relief managers provide oversight to Blake’s House/His House when our regular house manager is on vacation. Relief volunteers are asked to spend the night and are given accommodations. Relief volunteers will ensure residents are abiding by rules laid out in the handbook and report any infractions to Director and be open and available for residents to come to them with any issues they may be facing and give the resident the necessary help they need.
