Opportunities From: Volunteer McKinney

30% of elderly patients who discharge from a hospital readmit within 3 months, most often because they did not or could not meet their follow up needs.  Project Independence volunteers help senior clients who have been recently hospitalized with non-medical support.  Support activities can include driving clients to appointments, running errands for clients, well visits or phone calls, friendly visits, and light housekeeping.  Not all volunteers perform all activities.  Volunteers DO NOT perform any personal care for senior clients, and clients are pre-screened to be able to get in/out of a vehicle on their own.  Volunteers needed in McKinney and surrounding areas.  Program Coordinator will provide volunteer training and client support services.  Volunteers can choose whatever assignments would work for their own schedules - no minimum hours required. 

An RN Volunteer is needed to help with monthly blood pressure health screenings that occur on the 1st Thursday of every month (actual # date will vary).  Located at 401 W. 16th St, Plano, 75075, the screenings take place from 9:30 am - 12:00 pm.  Duties would include assisting patients to fill our paperwork, make copies of IDs, and make BP notations on the client's BP card. This volunteer may also be asked to assist with other health fairs that may happen from time-to-time in the Plano/McKinney/Allen area.
