The McKinney Parks Foundation is a volunteer-driven nonprofit dedicated to improving park spaces, maintaining trails, planting trees and wildflowers, and enhancing public access to nature. We are also launching the East McKinney Learning Garden, where volunteers will help educate the community and address food insecurity through sustainable gardening.

Why Do We Need These Tools?

Trail & Park Maintenance: Supports volunteers in maintaining bike trails, walking paths, and natural areas.Tree & Wildflower Planting: Helps expand green spaces and increase pollinator-friendly habitats.Community Tool Shed Initiative: Provides service groups with the tools needed for park enhancement projects.East McKinney Learning Garden: Equips volunteers to grow fresh food and educate the community about sustainable gardening and food security.

The McKinney Parks Foundation is growing, and we need strong, motivated individuals who care about the environment and public access to nature! We host monthly Saturday trail workdays (8–11 AM) where volunteers tackle projects like trail maintenance, habitat restoration, and park improvements. Volunteers can earn service hours for their group or project—and we need leaders to help make it happen!

Opportunities to Lead

We’re looking for dedicated volunteers ready to step up as Trail Crew Leads and Learning Garden Docents. If you want to do more than just show up—if you want to guide, teach, and make an impact—this is your chance.

Trail Crew Leads (No experience necessary—we’ll train you!)Lead small teams on trail workdays.Demonstrate proper tool use (we’ll show you the ropes).Help load/unload tools from the trailer.Assist with volunteer check-in.Occasionally help maintain our tool storage shed.Option to attend board meetings and contribute to leadership decisions.Learning Garden DocentsEngage with visitors at the upcoming East McKinney Learning Garden.Share knowledge about native plants, pollinators, and sustainable gardening.Lead short tours and hands-on activities for groups.Why Join Us?Get hands-on experience in conservation and leadership.Help shape and improve McKinney’s trails and green spaces.Build skills that can apply to careers in environmental work, education, or public service.Have fun, connect with like-minded people, and see the direct impact of your work!
