Volunteer: Create Mini-Hygiene Kit (or Donate the Items) for the Homeless(Perfect opportunity for student, school clubs, youth groups and others needing community service hours). For more details please contact Scott at (214) 501-6000 or email- scottmormon@gmail.com Keeping clean can be very difficult on the streets. When a man or lady is able to keep clean, this can give them that extra bit of positivity they need to get through the day, and it can help them present themselves well for a job interview. Mini-hygiene kits are a great way to help care for the less fortunate. Here are the ways you can help:A) Assemble full kits To assemble a mini-hygiene kit just put the items in a half-gallon-sized zip-lock (or off-brand) bag. If the items fit in a smaller bag that is fine too. Example Kit: Kit Contents:Toothbrush Feel free to add more items, but avoid liquids unless sealed very well. We are in the streets daily, so we go through bags quickly. Please know any amount helps us care for the less fortunate in our community. To drop off mini-hygiene kits please contact Scott at 972.890.5290 or scottmormon@bfinc.org We also invite you to come with us to the streets and watch us hand out the kits. We also do educational speaking to all ages about homelessness and drug and alcohol awareness. If interested please message or call us. The uninsured are up to four times less likely to have a consistent source of health care as those with insurance. Without a medical home, the uninsured often receive health care in the emergency room, the most expensive and least efficient setting possible for primary care. In McKinney, over 18,000 residents are uninsured and over 12,000 live in poverty. This leaves many without affordable access to health care. -------------------------------------------------------------------CommonGood Medical is a primary care medical clinic for low-income, uninsured residents of Collin County. CommonGood Medical also provides primary care, acute care, pediatrics, women's health, optometry, dermatology, cardiology, pulmonology, counseling, physical therapy, occupational therapy, prescription assistance, specialist referrals, spiritual care, and community resource referrals. CommonGood Medical does not charge a fee for its services. Agency: CommonGood Medical (formerly Hope Clinic of McKinney) Our purpose goes far beyond providing medical care. We are called to walk alongside our patients in their journeys, offering not only support but the gift of meaningful connection. As Patient Advocates, we aim to build deep relational equity, seeing each individual as a valued soul through the compassionate eyes of Christ. Our role is to bring the light of the Gospel into every interaction—through kind words, thoughtful actions, and unwavering love. We seek to be attentive to the Holy Spirit, listening for His guidance on how to best minister to the unique needs of every person we encounter. Volunteer: Hendrick Student Coach/Mentor 2025-2026We are in need of mentors! Become a Hendrick Coach for one of our deserving college scholars!
HSF will welcome 20–25 new college scholars in April 2026, and each student will need a dedicated volunteer coach. While the majority of new coaching opportunities will begin in April, there may also be openings throughout the year if a student needs to be reassigned. We’re actively recruiting now so we can match coaches as soon as opportunities arise—whether next week or next spring. If you're interested in making a meaningful difference, sign up today! The HSF coaching program is the main differentiator between HSF and other scholarship organizations. One-to-one coaching is a significant contributor to a student’s academic success. Students are each assigned a Coach to mentor them throughout the college journey. Coaches help their student monitor progress with their degree plan and stay on track to meet the Hendrick program requirements. They also provide direction with important decisions regarding other aspects of their student’s life and help guide students to learn to manage their time, set priorities, and develop good study habits. A coach is an advocate and a supportive resource, providing encouragement and helping the student stay focused on his or her goals. Expectations of a Coach:A willingness to learn about their student and build a relationship Connect with their student once a month (phone, Zoom, or in person) Attend end of semester Student Reviews (January and June) Inform the Student Success Committee of any needs or questions that arise Fill out a Coach Survey once a semester The Coach commitment is for 4-6 years with the same student. This creates consistency and stability for the student.Agency: Hendrick Scholarship Foundation We are in need of mentors! Become a Hendrick Coach for one of our deserving college scholars!

Volunteer: Do you know how to crochet? Come help make sleeping mats for the homeless with plastic yarn! This group began meeting in June of 2024. Every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month, Trinity Presbyterian Church of McKinney hosts a "plarn workshop". Plarn stands for plastic yarn (which is made from plastic grocery bags). We're a mix of church members and community members and it's a lot of fun! Together, we socialize for a couple of hours while flattening bags, cutting strips and looping the strips together into a ball of plarn, which then gets crocheted into a sleeping mat. We are in need of more people who know how to crochet, and we will teach you how to work with the plarn. We're thrilled with any and all helpers who want to come and be part of the group and help with any of the above tasks which means you don't have to crochet if that's not your strong suit! Please sign up to let us know you're coming. We meet from about 9:30am to 12pm in a classroom that is located closest to the west side parking lot of our building so it's recommended to park on the west side and enter through the doors with steps and a ramp leading to them. You can always come later or leave earlier as your schedule permits, this is a very easygoing and fun group. The completed sleeping mats are distributed through Streetside Showers in McKinney to be given to the homeless, and we would love to be able to increase our output as the need for these mats also increases. To date, we have given out over 70 sleeping mats to the homeless. Thank you for your interest and we look forward to meeting you! When filling out the volunteer application please make sure to select “REACH” for your volunteer position. This process includes a background check. Once approved, a one-hour mentor orientation training is required. Approved volunteers, please contact the McKinney ISD Partners in Education office by emailing cstolfa@mckinneyisd.net to schedule the orientation. REACH is a school-based program; therefore, all mentoring takes place at the student’s campus, once a week, during a time that has been set up by the Campus Liaison and the mentor. Started in 2006, the REACH program is designed to foster a basic sense of self-esteem, self-confidence, and motivation to learn and improve personal and social skills that will reinforce the importance of an education. The primary mission of the program is to reach one child at a time. Volunteer: Male MentorPurpose At Jim Riley Outreach (JRO), we firmly believe that mentors are a key component to the success of our residents. There are multiple studies that show the importance of this relationship. We see our mentors as the main way to connect our residents with members of the community. These connections will become a support system to help our young women and men grow and sustain them both now and in the future. Expectations As a faith-based program, we do ask that our mentors have a strong faith. We also ask that our mentors commit to their mentee for the full length that he/she is in the program, up to two years. The monthly expectations of mentors are to connect with their mentees for a total of six hours a month. The time commitment encompasses the twice a month ‘Mentor Nights” on Tuesday nights, as well as other calls/texts throughout the month. We want our mentors to establish trust, maintain confidentiality, and provide guidance and encouragement, as well as share personal experiences and perspectives with their mentees. Our hope is that our mentors are with our young adults for life. The goal would be that your mentee would be invited in to be a part of your family life: that these relationships remain a support system to them long after their time here. Volunteer: Patient Advocate (Farmersville) - Provide Compassionate Support and GuidanceOur purpose goes far beyond providing medical care. This isn’t just a task—it’s a profound opportunity to make an eternal impact, to be the hands and feet of Jesus in the lives of those who need it most. Together, we shine His light in places of darkness, offering hope, healing, and dignity to every soul we serve. To apply, go to https://commongoodmedical.org Have questions? Please contact monica@commongoodmedical.org ------------------------------------------------------------------- CommonGood Medical exists to share the love of Jesus Christ by partnering with our community to provide quality, compassionate health care and resources to our medically underserved neighbors. -------------------------------------------------------------------Texas has the highest number of uninsured persons in the United States.
