This year, the Heard Natural Science Museum is pleased to offer a new adult-oriented Fright at the Museum on Friday, October 17th, from 6:00pm to 10:00pm.

We are looking for volunteers over age 21 to assist primarily with staffing trick-or-treat stations and haunting the forest.   Attractions (except for food vendors) are closed during the movie, with the haunted forest opening only after the movie concludes. This allows volunteers plenty of down-time to enjoy the movie and food trucks.

Join us to tend to the McKinney Green Gardens leading up to the major planting on October 25th, for Make a Difference Day. Volunteers should bring water and work gloves. Volunteers can bring extra tools to help with labor. Volunteers will pull weeds, spread mulch, and complete other tasks around the garden.

What to Bring: Bring tools to work in the garden. Tools include wheelbarrows, clippers, hand shovels, shovels, rakes, gloves and water. Sunscreen and bug spray are recommended.

This Make a Difference Day, we need your help to give our pantry a little TLC! Volunteers will move pantry items, pull shelves away from the walls, sweep, mop, and reset everything in place. It may sound simple, but it makes a huge difference in keeping our space safe, clean, and ready to serve families who depend on us.

This is a family-friendly opportunity for ages 12 and up. Volunteers between the ages of 12–16 must be accompanied by an adult. Come roll up your sleeves, bring your family or friends, and make a tangible difference in our community!

In addition to prayer, we also try to help the homeless we reach out to with their practical needs. Having a Food Pack to hand out to them is a great help especially on days when local food pantries are not open.

To make a food pack please put several non-perishable snack items in a quart-size zip-lock (or off-brand) bag. Note that the bags should be plastic and not paper.

If you can't make a food pack then feel free to donate non-perishable food items.

Here are some example items that will work. We just ask that any liquids be donated separately and not placed inside the bags.

Nuts
Jerky

Additionally, if any of your food items require utensils it'd be a great help if you include disposable utensils in the bag.

We are out in the streets daily, so we go through bags quickly. We can go through 400 bags a month. Please know any amount helps us care for the less fortunate in our community.

We are in urgent need of bottled water to support individuals experiencing homelessness in our community—especially during this extreme Texas heat. Through our Church Without Walls outreach, we serve and minister to over 40 people on the streets every single day, offering food, clothing, encouragement, and prayer.

Your bottled water donations help prevent dehydration and show our neighbors they are seen, loved, and not forgotten.

Volunteers will meet at 9 AM behind the school, where the concrete walking path begins.

Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 2150 – Lone Star Post has proudly served McKinney and the greater community since 1936. Together as veterans, families, and friends, we honor our mission to support one another and give back to the community.

We invite your group to support our residents by preparing bag lunches for our residents who are off campus during mealtimes. This is a simple yet impactful way to meet a daily need and show care to those we serve.

This opportunity is for a group of 10, children 10+ are welcome to serve alongside a parent. This is a great opportunity for families, youth groups, or corporate teams to get involved. We ask that you provide the needed items for 80 lunches. A typical lunch includes: A sandwich, a bag of chips, a dessert, and 2 snacks (granola bar or crackers). Upon registration you will be provided a link to sign up for the needed supplies.

*please note that bags are packed using peanut butter in certain items.

Our teachers give their all each day to support and inspire our students. We want to give back by creating a calming “Zen Space” where they can recharge, reset, and take a breath during their busy day. You can help make this possible! We’ve put together a wishlist of items that will bring comfort, peace, and positivity to this space—things like cozy seating, calming décor, essential oils, and small touches of relaxation. This is the prep & staging of the garden for planting the next day!

Activities include unloading plants, labeling, organizing plants, weeding, mulching & other various needs.This community event is hosted by Blackland Prairie Master Naturalists, Keep McKinney Beautiful, Youth Creating Change, One Earth One Chance, and Texas Conservation Alliance. Whether you're an experienced gardener or new to planting, all are welcome to roll up their sleeves and make a lasting impact!

McKinney Green Gardens is located in Gabe Nesbitt Park, between the water tower and Hillsdale Drive. Volunteers will help remove weeds and plant native species while learning about drought-tolerant gardening, water conservation, watershed protection, and the value of prairie habitat for insects, birds, and other wildlife.

What to bring:

Tools will be provided. Come help us grow a healthier, more resilient North Texas!

We’re collecting new twin-size sheets and new pillows to support the residents at our homeless shelter. Help us by organizing a donation drive within your organization, business, school or neighborhood. Once your donation drive is completed, donations need to be delivered to The Samaritan Inn. 

A clean, comfortable bed can make a world of difference for someone starting a new chapter—and your donation helps make that possible.

Inn Style, our resale store plays a vital role in the support of the programs at The Samaritan Inn. 

Here’s what your group can expect to help with: Sorting and organizing donations, tagging and displaying merchandise, assisting customers and maintaining a tidy store.

When: Saturday, October 18th, 2025, 8am – 11am

What we will be doing: We’ll be clearing the trail, clearing areas around planted trees, performing trash pickup, and removing fallen debris and trash on trails, removing stumps, marking potential dangers along the nature path, and applying trail markings. Tools available will include weed whackers, backpack blowers, loppers, shovels, etc. To use power tools, you’ll have to complete MPF Safety Orientation. Click here to view the regulations.

What to bring: Print the volunteer waiver and bring it with you. Participants under age 18 need to have a guardian or parent sign the form. You will also need to have your own work gloves. Bring bug spray, sunscreen, and water. Protective eyewear is recommended if you plan to be cutting branches or operating some of the cutting tools. If you bring your own tools, please have them marked as such so we know they are yours.

What do I wear: Long pants, long sleeves, and closed-toe shoes or boots. Sunscreen and bug spray are recommended.Please dress appropriately for the weather. Please do not wear leggings, shorts, or other thin material which is not protective on your body.

Please arrive at least 10 minutes early for waiver sign-in and team assignments.

Community Lifeline Center operates a grocery-store-style food pantry that serves hundreds of local families every week. If you become a Food Pantry Volunteer, you'll be a big help in our mission to get food to our neighbors who need it.

You'll work with the Pantry staff and other volunteers to:

- Help check and sort donations from the food bank, retail partners, and the community

- Help restock dry goods, produce, bread/pastries, dairy, and deli items

- Help clean and organize by breaking down boxes, taking out cardboard and trash, and cleaning coolers, shelves, and carts

Your help is needed NOW! Without volunteers like you, families may face empty shelves. Sign up today and be the reason a neighbor doesn’t go hungry.

Community Lifeline Center operates a grocery-store-style food pantry that serves hundreds of local families every week. Our Shopping Guides are an important part of helping our neighbors get the food they need.  As a Shopping Guide, you’ll make each neighbor’s visit a great one by:

- Greeting our neighbors in the Pantry

- Answering questions from them as they shop

- Informing them of any limits to the number of specific items they may take 

- Notifying Pantry Staff if items in your area need to be restocked

You'll need to feel comfortable interacting with our visitors and standing for the duration of your shift.  Spanish is a plus but definitely not required. Thank you for helping us feed our community!

Please note volunteers must be age 16+ to come on their own.  Ages 14-15 may volunteer if accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.  We do not have volunteer opportunities for children under the age of 14.

- Greet our clients as they enter the Pantry

- Ensure they have their membership cards with them so they can check out at the end of their visit

- Register first-time visitors to use the Pantry using a provided tablet, or refer them to another Pantry if they live outside our service area

You'll need to feel comfortable using a tablet and interacting with our visitors; Spanish is a big plus but definitely not required.  As a Receptionist, you may choose to sit or stand as you work.  Thank you for helping us feed our community!

Please note volunteers must be age 16+ to come on their own.  Ages 14-15 may volunteer if accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.  We do not have volunteer opportunities for children under the age of 14.

Community Lifeline Center operates a client-choice food pantry that serves hundreds of local families every week. If you become a Food Pantry Volunteer, you'll be a big help in our mission to get food to our neighbors who need it.  You'll work with the Pantry staff and other volunteers to:

- Help check and sort donations from the food bank, retail partners, and the community

- Help restock dry goods, produce, bread/pastries, dairy, and deli items

- Help clean and organize by breaking down boxes and taking out cardboard and trash

Community Lifeline Center operates a grocery-store-style food pantry that serves hundreds of local families every week.  Our Check-Out Volunteers are an important part of helping our neighbors get the food they need.

As a Check-Out Volunteer, you'll be the friendly face who helps our clients complete their shopping trip to stock up on nutritious food for their families.  It’s a great way to meet and help our neighbors, and your help means we’ll be able to quickly get our neighbors on their way!

During your shift, you’ll:
- Greet our neighbors when they’re ready to check out

- Use a provided tablet to scan each shopper's membership card

- Record the weight of their groceries when they're done shopping.  This helps us keep track of how many people we serve, and how much food we give out - more than 100,000 people and 1.4 million pounds last year!

You'll need to feel comfortable using a tablet and talking to our visitors; Spanish is a plus but definitely not required.  You may sit or stand while doing Check-Out.  And if you enjoy your time with us, we hope you'll consider a regular shift.

At The Samaritan Inn, each new resident receives a hygiene kit upon arrival—filled with essential items to help them feel clean, cared for, and comfortable. These kits are replenished throughout their stay, and we need your help to keep them stocked!

How You Can Help: Prepare Hygiene Bags with full-size toiletries placed in a cinch sack. Please note this is an offsite activity. You will need to provide the supplies, and the kits will be made at your home, church, organization and delivered to The Samaritan Inn upon completion.

Join us to tend to the McKinney Green Gardens. Volunteers should bring water and work gloves. Volunteers can bring extra tools to help with labor. Volunteers will pull weeds, spread mulch, and complete other tasks around the garden. This recurring workday will have many learning opportunities about native and drought-tolerant gardening, water conservation, and watershed protection.

TLT is seeking adults to serve as a mentor for our REMOTE, TLT Leading Leaders Intern sessions, for interns ages 15 and older. 100% remote. Opportunities run 10-12 weeks, three times a year.

TLT – Tomorrow’s Leaders Today, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to helping develop youth leaders through education, collaboration and mentorships with community & business leaders for the collective benefit of the students and their communities.

Purpose:
The Intern Programming Committee is a standing committee with goals of insuring the visibility of the organization to the public in multiple formats.
Volunteers for the Intern Programming Committee is reviewed by the President. The Intern Programming Committee Chair, Committee Members and the Executive Director will work together to determine committee needs and will brainstorm new and potential committee members.

Committee Members Responsibilities:
 Serves in an advisory role to guide the committee
 Expresses ideas and provides input
 Actively participates in meetings, contributing to the discussion, brainstorming and sharing innovative ideas
 Reviews material and provides input for improvement
 Serves as internal/external linkages for TLT to open doors to further the organization’s mission and vision.
 Participate in the development and implementation of the committee work plan

Time Commitment For Committee Members
 Committee members should anticipate being available an average of 3‐4 hours per week.

Committee Expectations:
 The Communications Committee will provide written reports to the full Board of Directors of any actions taken, meetings held or discussions that have occurred.
 Committee will assist with intern project reviews through share drive access.
 Committee will visit or facilitate at least three weekly team meetings. 
 Develop and update intern syllabus and position descriptions.
 With support from staff, submit objectives and a work plan for the committee as part of the planning and budgeting process.
 With support from staff, evaluate its work as a committee and the objectives it has committed itself to and report on same to the Executive Director.
 Any members who have not attended regular meetings or documented activities to promote the committee’s objectives for a period of 2 consecutive months will be removed from the membership list.

Due to a large population of Spanish speaking patients, we are in need of a volunteer to help at the front desk who is bilingual in Spanish and English. Duties would include answering phones, greeting patients, filing and computer work. Days needed the most are Mondays and Wednesdays. We are looking for volunteers who can donate their time on a consistent weekly basis.

Donated items can be dropped off at any shower location. 

Washing towels is a commitment to come to our storage, pick up towels and take them home or to the laundromat to wash. Once they are clean, you would then fold them, put them in a white trash bag, and return them to our storage. Each pick up, you would take about 3 trash bags full of towels.

We provide laundry detergent, laundry sanitizer and white trash bags for the clean towels.

You would pick the towels up and drop them off at a storage unit in McKinney.

You can have one volunteer who does it each pick up or a group and just rotate each pick up.

We have opportunities for weekly, every other week or standby towel volunteers.

Do you enjoy setting up and serving at parties? We have Tea and Tours for groups here at Chestnut Square. We serve lunch in our historic homes and a tour of the historic homes follows the lunch. If you like to serve and work with people in the community, come join us.

We are looking for volunteers that can be on their feet for a few hours cleaning dishes and serving our guests. Must have comfortable close toed shoes.

Tea & Tours can be scheduled on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, or Saturdays between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM, depending on the event.

Volunteer to be a Docent (tour guide) to lead tours of the Historic Home Museums on Thursdays and/or Saturdays at 11:00 am. Learn the stories of the families that lived in the historic homes and pass on their history to visitor's that come to take a tour. No experience is required. Docents receive full training, including a docent manual with the history of the families that lived in the homes, tours with experienced docents and mock tours with the Chestnut Square Tour Manager.

Requirements:

Village Tours are on Thursday and Saturday from 10:45 am to 12:15 pm and Friday from 12:45pm-2:45pm.

Background check required and we support the cost.

Observe at least two group tours with an experienced docent

Conduct a mock tour with the Chestnut Square Museum Director before you begin leading tours on your own.

Preferred skills:

Well-spoken, speak clearly and animated

We are looking for servers, to serve luncheon at out Annual Event fund raising event to help preserve this Historic Home and Museum for the Community.

When: Saturday, October 11th

TIME: 10:45 am to 1:15 pm

Where: 306 north Church Street (across from the Heard Craig center for the Arts)

Attire: Ladies: Black slacks or black skirt with white shirt (no minis halters, mid drift or jeans or flip flops. Must where closed toed shoes. Clothes clean and not torn, sneakers are ok)

Once you have signed up on Volunteer McKinney, I will contact you via text for your confirmation. You must confirm to be placed on the list. Cancellations must be 2 weeks prior to the event, therefore, if you are not sure, do not sign up until you are. You will also be contacted closer to the vent for any last minute details
