Volunteer: Churches - Interested in Serving the Foster/Adoptive Community?Join the Embrace Church Network!
Embrace's mission statement is to "connect willing hands with opportunities to serve children in foster, adoptive and kinship care." This can refer to anyone who is willing to help, but we believe that the Church is called to help be a solution to the massive problem of the foster and adoptive system in our community. Many children are hurting, feel forgotten and unloved and left lingering in foster care with no forever family. Many families are struggling under the burden of caring for someone else's child and feeling like there is no one to help them navigate the weighty, often difficult journey of fostering and adopting. To combat these very common problems among those we serve, we partner with many churches in our area, collectively called the Embrace Church Network. If your church is interested in coming alongside us to serve the community of foster and adoptive children and their families and caregivers, please let us know. We would love to share more information about our efforts, the network and ways you can engage, whether you are a lay leader or head pastor! Volunteer: Join Us as a CASA Volunteer, Help Change the Lives of Children in Collin CountyIf you're interested in becoming a CASA Volunteer, CLICK this link to register for an Information Session.
What is a CASA? CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) are everyday citizens appointed by our District Court Judges to advocate for the safety and well-being of children who are victims of parental abuse and neglect & living away from home. CASAs stand up for these children - one case at a time - in court and positively impact the child's trajectory within the foster care system. CASA volunteers are ordinary people who are concerned about the happiness and safety of children who are temporarily living in protective custody. Volunteers do not need a social work background or legal expertise, just a willingness to give your time to make an extraordinary difference in the lives of Collin County’s most vulnerable children. Part of the CASA program’s success has been its diversity of volunteers, full-time workers, stay-at-home parents, retirees and people of all races, religions, and economic backgrounds. Volunteers are partnered with a CASA staffer who serves as their coach and cheerleader throughout the case. Volunteers are 21 or older and successfully pass our background screening, but all other skills and child welfare knowledge are taught in our extensive training program - taught 3 times/year. CASA Volunteers give an average of 15 to 20 hours per month to their assigned case, involving a local child (or sibling group) currently living in protective custody. Volunteers get to know the child and learn their history with the use of a powerful, (Guardian ad Litem) court order. Volunteers talk with everyone in that child's life—parents, relatives, foster parents, teachers, medical professionals, mental health service providers, attorneys, and social workers just to name a few. With the coaching & guidance from their CASA staffer, volunteer Advocates testify in court (about 5x/year) with information they've gathered to inform judges and others of specific child needs and make recommendations that serve the child's best interests. The CASA Volunteer provides a powerful voice to grateful judges and is often the only consistent and caring adult presence in the life of a a child throughout the difficult journey through the foster care system. Volunteer Requirements Be 21+ years old Be willing to complete the online application, background checks, provide references and participate in a pre-service interview Complete 35 hours of pre-service training, observe live courtroom hearings, and be willing to commit to the CASA program for at least 18 months Be available for court appearances (with 2 wks. advanced notice) Visit your case's child(ren) at least twice per month Attend 12 hours of additional in-service training on an annual basisAgency: CASA of Collin County - Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children If you're interested in becoming a CASA Volunteer, CLICK this link to register for an Information Session.

Volunteer: EVENT PLANNER | Help Us Plan Events for Pediatric Cancer Families in NTXHelp Leia's Kids plan events for pediatric cancer families in North Texas!
Make a meaningful impact by helping Leia's Kids plan unforgettable events for families battling pediatric cancer in North Texas. Your creativity and organizational skills can bring joy to children and their families during one of the most challenging times in their lives. As an Event Planner volunteer, you'll play a crucial role in coordinating special "Crown-A-Kid" parties—celebrations designed to honor the bravery of young cancer warriors. For more information or if you have any questions, please reach out to us at info@leiaskids.org. About Leia's KidsMany of us know local children and families that have been affected by childhood cancer. Doctors and nurses work hard to cure patients’ cancers, but families need more than medical help to get them through this difficult time. This is the point at which the Leia’s Kids Foundation intervenes. The foundation provides direct support to children and their families who are facing the often overwhelming childhood cancer pathway. Leia’s Kids honors each child and their family through a Crown-A-Kid party. This is a time to celebrate and encourage the child and family in the biggest battle of their lives. Each child receives a $1,000.00 donation from the Leia’s Kids Foundation. Offer emotional support and connect families together to form a community. We walk with families because we understand what it’s like to have a child with cancer. Leia’s Kids focus on the whole family because cancer affects everyone! (Sometimes fighting cancer comes in the form of doing the dishes or babysitting your younger siblings while mom and dad are at the hospital.) Volunteer: Adopt-A-Spots Available, Group Oriented Volunteer WorkAdopt-A-Spot
We need your help! Consider adopting a park, section of creek, green space, or road to pick up litter and help keep our community clean and healthy. Adopt-A-Spot is a community-based program developed by Keep McKinney Beautiful and the Office of Environmental Sustainability. It gives individuals and groups a public way to show pride in their community and help keep it litter-free. Who can participate? The program is free and open to all citizens. Minors must be accompanied by an adult. Volunteers who Adopt-A-Spot pledge to: maintain their spot for one year or longer, agree to maintain the spot four times within the year, and send progress reports to the Office of Environmental Sustainability. How to get started Organize your volunteer group. Families, neighborhoods, HOAs, civic groups, Scouts, and business groups are eligible. Determine a spot to adopt. This can range from your neighborhood block to a right-of-way within the city. Be sure wherever your group adopts is age-appropriate for your party. Complete the Adopt-A-Spot: New Submission Request Once approved, schedule your tool and volunteer waiver pick-up by emailing the Office of Environmental Sustainability. Tools and completed volunteer waivers are to be returned within one week of the clean-up event. Where can be adopted? Any spot within the city limits of McKinney that is not currently being maintained may be adopted, with special attention to those places that appear neglected. A vacant lot, city medians, and right-of-ways are possible candidates. Some spots may require litter pick up to be maintained, others may require weeding and/or grass maintenance, as well as litter pick up. Our Adopt-A-Spot coordinator can help you choose a location that best suits you and your group. You can use the Trash Free Texas Interactive Map or send an inquiry with the specific location in mind.NOTE: TxDot roadways such as 380, 75, and 5 cannot be adopted through this program. Why Adopt-A-Spot?Litter is the biggest source of pollution for our local waterways. Keeping our streams clean means that we live in a healthier community and enjoy a higher quality of life. Being an Adopter gives participants an opportunity to give back to the community, teach their children about community responsibility, receive positive publicity for their business, and gain valuable community volunteer experience. After the clean-up Submit a Wrap-Up Report after the cleanup event Email us photos and post them on your social media. Be sure to tag #KeepMcKinneyBeautiful #UniquebyNatureAdopt-A-Spot applies only to city property, however, we are willing to work with HOAs to coordinate cleanups in their communities. Resources Before the Clean-Up During the Clean-Up Clean-Up Checklist DMWT Activity Book Not interested in adopting a spot, but still want to participate in a clean-up?For one-time clean-up events, we have a lending system for tools. Email Green@McKinneyTexas.org for more information. All areas within City Limits are eligible to report Wrap-Up Reports to report their community effort in Cleanups around the City. Volunteer: Donate 2 Impact (formerly Recycle 2 Support) - Lovepacs Frisco
We have a partnership with Donate 2 Impact (R2S), a local donation center. They accept a large number of unwanted and unused items and work with Thrift Giant when they can and when they can't they make sure items are recycled properly to help take care of our environment. As a partner, anytime someone drops off items at their location off of Ohio and Hillcrest (10601 Ohio Dr.) and mentions "Lovepacs Frisco," we receive a payment for every pound donated in our name. It's a simple process and it helps us in so many ways! We're able to use the funds we receive from R2S to help maintain our space, purchase supplies, and purchase food.
We'd love for any and all volunteers and donors to remember us anytime you're clearing clutter! For those needing service hours we have an ongoing sign up to help document participation, hours, etc.
