Volunteer: Volunteer to Mentor an Underserved High School Student and Change a Life - 1 Hour per week

Be a High School mentor for 1 Hour a week for College readiness counseling. This is for DISD school district. Hybrid available! The curriculum is provided!   APPLY ONLINE HERE

C.H.O.I.C.E.: Consider How One Individual Changes Everything

Here at Foundation for C.H.O.I.C.E. we are preparing for a great school year, pairing volunteer mentors with underserved students for post-secondary success! We are ready for the first step: YOU!
Each year, our nonprofit program gives volunteer mentors an opportunity to meet once a week for an hour with a hand-picked, at-risk high school junior or senior that would not otherwise have access to the guidance they need to make a future for themselves. Our mentors are provided with a complete online curriculum to lead students through college prep, researching a business, and preparing for senior year and beyond.
This year we will be working hand-in-hand with select Dallas ISD high schools and plan to return to in-person meetings with students as much as possible. We are reaching out to ask you to commit to a student for the school year, and reap the benefits of changing a young life, your community, and the world.
The average high school student receives less than 45 minutes of college counseling over four years. Fill the gap in their journey! Give the lasting gift of your own story and experience to a student eager for guidance and support that is not present in many young lives.

Volunteer: Donate Bibles; Help Support Single Mothers, Children and Homeless

As we reach out to the community whether single mothers with children or the homeless we find they often need bibles. If you would like to donate Bibles then anything will work, but these are our recommendations:

Complete or New Testament: Bibles can be the full bible with Old + New Testament or New Testament only.

Youth & Children's Bibles: Especially needed.

Life Recovery Bible for those needing bibles in our drug and alcohol addiction program.

Easy-to-understand Translations: Translations that are easier to comprehend are preferable. While some people we meet use the King James Version many have trouble understanding it.

Language Options: We need Bibles in Spanish and others in English. You may provide either or both.

Thank you so much, you don't know how thankful people can be when the right person receives their first bible.

As a faith-based program, we do ask that our mentors have a strong faith. We also ask that our mentors commit to their mentee for the full length that he/she is in the program, up to two years. The monthly expectations of mentors are to connect with their mentees for a total of six hours a month. The time commitment encompasses the twice a month ‘Mentor Nights” on Tuesday nights, as well as other calls/texts throughout the month. We want our mentors to establish trust, maintain confidentiality, and provide guidance and encouragement, as well as share personal experiences and perspectives with their mentees. Our hope is that our mentors are with our young adults for life. The goal would be that your mentee would be invited in to be a part of your family life: that these relationships remain a support system to them long after their time here.

Agency: Jim Riley Outreach

Purpose

At Jim Riley Outreach (JRO), we firmly believe that mentors are a key component to the success of our residents. There are multiple studies that show the importance of this relationship. We see our mentors as the main way to connect our residents with members of the community. These connections will become a support system to help our young women and men grow and sustain them both now and in the future.

Volunteer: Patient Advocate (Farmersville) - Provide Compassionate Support and Guidance

Our purpose goes far beyond providing medical care. We are called to walk alongside our patients in their journeys, offering not only support but the gift of meaningful connection. As Patient Advocates, we aim to build deep relational equity, seeing each individual as a valued soul through the compassionate eyes of Christ.

Our role is to bring the light of the Gospel into every interaction—through kind words, thoughtful actions, and unwavering love. We seek to be attentive to the Holy Spirit, listening for His guidance on how to best minister to the unique needs of every person we encounter.

This isn’t just a task—it’s a profound opportunity to make an eternal impact, to be the hands and feet of Jesus in the lives of those who need it most. Together, we shine His light in places of darkness, offering hope, healing, and dignity to every soul we serve.

To apply, go to https://commongoodmedical.org

Have questions?  Please contact monica@commongoodmedical.org

------------------------------------------------------------------- CommonGood Medical exists to share the love of Jesus Christ by partnering with our community to provide quality, compassionate health care and resources to our medically underserved neighbors. -------------------------------------------------------------------

Texas has the highest number of uninsured persons in the United States.

The uninsured are up to four times less likely to have a consistent source of health care as those with insurance. Without a medical home, the uninsured often receive health care in the emergency room, the most expensive and least efficient setting possible for primary care.

In McKinney, over 18,000 residents are uninsured and over 12,000 live in poverty. This leaves many without affordable access to health care.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

CommonGood Medical is a primary care medical clinic for low-income, uninsured residents of Collin County.

CommonGood Medical also provides primary care, acute care, pediatrics, women's health, optometry, dermatology, cardiology, pulmonology, counseling, physical therapy, occupational therapy, prescription assistance, specialist referrals, spiritual care, and community resource referrals. CommonGood Medical does not charge a fee for its services.

We also have required training for Side Walkers. All ManeGait volunteers must be at least 14 years old.

Complete our volunteer application here!  If you have any specific questions, please email Jennifer Scott, ManeGait Volunteer Coordinator at jscott@manegait.org.

Volunteer: Churches - Interested in Serving the Foster/Adoptive Community?

Join the Embrace Church Network!

Embrace's mission statement is to "connect willing hands with opportunities to serve children in foster, adoptive and kinship care." This can refer to anyone who is willing to help, but we believe that the Church is called to help be a solution to the massive problem of the foster and adoptive system in our community. Many children are hurting, feel forgotten and unloved and left lingering in foster care with no forever family. Many families are struggling under the burden of caring for someone else's child and feeling like there is no one to help them navigate the weighty, often difficult journey of fostering and adopting.

To combat these very common problems among those we serve, we partner with many churches in our area, collectively called the Embrace Church Network. If your church is interested in coming alongside us to serve the community of foster and adoptive children and their families and caregivers, please let us know. We would love to share more information about our efforts, the network and ways you can engage, whether you are a lay leader or head pastor!

Volunteer: Make a lasting impact: Support our "Wall of Fun" and Essential Supplies

At CommonGood Medical, we strive to do more than provide medical care—we aim to restore dignity, hope, and love to our neighbors in need. After every visit, our patients are invited to choose a few personal hygiene items from our “Wall of Fun”—a simple yet meaningful way to show them that their well-being matters beyond their medical needs.

We rely on the generosity of our community to keep this wall stocked with essential items like hygiene products and medical supplies. By shopping our Amazon and Walmart Wish Lists, you can help us continue to serve our medically underserved neighbors with care and compassion.

Use this link to purchase SUPPLIES from the Amazon Need LIST Use this link to purchase SUPPLIES from the Walmart Need LIST CommonGood exists to share the love of Jesus Christ by partnering with our community to provide quality, compassionate health care and resources to our medically underserved neighbors.

Why Your Support Matters:

Texas has the highest number of uninsured individuals in the U.S.
In McKinney alone, over 18,000 residents are uninsured, and 12,000 live in poverty, leaving many without affordable access to health care. Without a consistent source of care, the uninsured often turn to emergency rooms—the most expensive and least efficient solution.

Your contribution ensures our patients not only receive quality health care but also basic necessities that many take for granted. Together, we can offer them a sense of dignity and love in their hardest moments.

If you have any questions please reach out to Monica at monica@commongoodmedical.org or at the CommonGood Medical website https://commongoodmedical.org/.

Volunteer: Join Us as a CASA Volunteer, Help Change the Lives of Children in Collin County

If you're interested in becoming a CASA Volunteer, CLICK this link to register for an Information Session.

What is a CASA?

CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) are everyday citizens appointed by our District Court Judges to advocate for the safety and well-being of children who are victims of parental abuse and neglect & living away from home. CASAs stand up for these children - one case at a time - in court and positively impact the child's trajectory within the foster care system. CASA volunteers are ordinary people who are concerned about the happiness and safety of children who are temporarily living in protective custody.

Volunteers do not need a social work background or legal expertise, just a willingness to give your time to make an extraordinary difference in the lives of Collin County’s most vulnerable children. Part of the CASA program’s success has been its diversity of volunteers, full-time workers, stay-at-home parents, retirees and people of all races, religions, and economic backgrounds. Volunteers are partnered with a CASA staffer who serves as their coach and cheerleader throughout the case.  Volunteers are 21 or older and successfully pass our background screening, but all other skills and child welfare knowledge are taught in our extensive training program - taught 3 times/year.

What Do CASA Volunteers Do?

CASA Volunteers give an average of 15 to 20 hours per month to their assigned case, involving a local child (or sibling group) currently living in protective custody. Volunteers get to know the child and learn their history with the use of a powerful, (Guardian ad Litem) court order. Volunteers talk with everyone in that child's life—parents, relatives, foster parents, teachers, medical professionals, mental health service providers, attorneys, and social workers just to name a few.  With the coaching & guidance from their CASA staffer, volunteer Advocates testify in court (about 5x/year) with information they've gathered to inform judges and others of specific child needs and make recommendations that serve the child's best interests.  The CASA Volunteer provides a powerful voice to grateful judges and is often the only consistent and caring adult presence in the life of a a child throughout the difficult journey through the foster care system.

Volunteer Requirements Be 21+ years old Be willing to complete the online application, background checks, provide references and participate in a pre-service interview Complete 35 hours of pre-service training, observe live courtroom hearings, and be willing to commit to the CASA program for at least 18 months Be available for court appearances (with 2 wks. advanced notice) Visit your case's child(ren) at least twice per month Attend 12 hours of additional in-service training on an annual basis

Volunteer: EVENT PLANNER | Help Us Plan Events for Pediatric Cancer Families in NTX

Help Leia's Kids plan events for pediatric cancer families in North Texas!

Make a meaningful impact by helping Leia's Kids plan unforgettable events for families battling pediatric cancer in North Texas. Your creativity and organizational skills can bring joy to children and their families during one of the most challenging times in their lives. As an Event Planner volunteer, you'll play a crucial role in coordinating special "Crown-A-Kid" parties—celebrations designed to honor the bravery of young cancer warriors.

For more information or if you have any questions, please reach out to us at info@leiaskids.org.

About Leia's Kids

Many of us know local children and families that have been affected by childhood cancer. Doctors and nurses work hard to cure patients’ cancers, but families need more than medical help to get them through this difficult time. This is the point at which the Leia’s Kids Foundation intervenes. The foundation provides direct support to children and their families who are facing the often overwhelming childhood cancer pathway.

Leia’s Kids honors each child and their family through a Crown-A-Kid party. This is a time to celebrate and encourage the child and family in the biggest battle of their lives.

Each child receives a $1,000.00 donation from the Leia’s Kids Foundation.

Offer emotional support and connect families together to form a community. We walk with families because we understand what it’s like to have a child with cancer.

Leia’s Kids focus on the whole family because cancer affects everyone! (Sometimes fighting cancer comes in the form of doing the dishes or babysitting your younger siblings while mom and dad are at the hospital.)
