Special Olympics Texas State Summer Games is the largest annual competition hosted by Special Olympics Texas, bringing together thousands of athletes with intellectual disabilities from across the state to compete in a multi-day, Olympic-style event. Typically held in late spring or early summer, the Games feature a wide range of sports such as track and field, soccer, cycling, tennis, and more.
The event is not only a celebration of athletic achievement but also a powerful display of inclusion, determination, and community. Athletes compete at their highest level while being cheered on by families, friends, volunteers, and supporters from all walks of life. Beyond the competitions, the Games include opening ceremonies, award presentations, health screenings, and social activities that foster camaraderie and joy.
The State Summer Games exemplify the mission of Special Olympics Texas: to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, and experience joy through sport.
