Volunteer: Make A Difference Day: Pantry Clean-Up & Organization Volunteer Project

This Make a Difference Day, we need your help to give our pantry a little TLC! Volunteers will move pantry items, pull shelves away from the walls, sweep, mop, and reset everything in place. It may sound simple, but it makes a huge difference in keeping our space safe, clean, and ready to serve families who depend on us.

This is a family-friendly opportunity for ages 12 and up. Volunteers between the ages of 12–16 must be accompanied by an adult. Come roll up your sleeves, bring your family or friends, and make a tangible difference in our community!

Parking is available at Dr. Ogle Elementary School, located at 4200 Big Fork Trail, McKinney, TX 75070

Volunteers will meet at 9 AM behind the school, where the concrete walking path begins.

What to bring: Participants under the age 18 need to have a guardian or parent present. Bring bug spray, sunscreen, and water. If you bring your own tools, please have them marked with your name and contact information.  

What do I wear: Long pants, long sleeves, and closed-toed shoes or boots. Sunscreen and bug spray are recommended. Please dress appropriately for the weather. 

NO PUBLIC RESTROOMS are available on-site. The nearest public restroom is at ALDI.

Please arrive about 10 minutes early for a safety orientation and waiver sign-in.

Whether you're an experienced gardener or new to planting, all are welcome to roll up their sleeves and make a lasting impact!

McKinney Green Gardens is located in Gabe Nesbitt Park, between the water tower and Hillsdale Drive. Volunteers will help remove weeds and plant native species while learning about drought-tolerant gardening, water conservation, watershed protection, and the value of prairie habitat for insects, birds, and other wildlife.

Tools will be provided. Come help us grow a healthier, more resilient North Texas!

Volunteer: Spread Seasonal Cheer – Make Wreaths for Shelter Residents (Offsite)

Help us bring warmth and joy to our shelter this season by creating fall and winter wreaths to decorate the doors of our residents. These handmade decorations offer a simple but powerful reminder that someone cares—and they help make our shelter feel more like home. Whether your a family, a group of friends or an organization you can help! This activity will be completed offsite at your home, organization or other offsite location and delivered to The Samaritan Inn once completed.

Help us bring warmth and joy to our shelter this season by creating fall and winter wreaths to decorate the doors of our residents. These handmade decorations offer a simple but powerful reminder that someone cares—and they help make our shelter feel more like home. Whether your a family, a group of friends or an organization you can help! This activity will be completed offsite at your home, organization or other offsite location and delivered to The Samaritan Inn once completed.

Volunteer: Support Our Residents – Assemble Hygiene Kits for The Samaritan Inn (Offsite)

At The Samaritan Inn, each new resident receives a hygiene kit upon arrival—filled with essential items to help them feel clean, cared for, and comfortable. These kits are replenished throughout their stay, and we need your help to keep them stocked!

How You Can Help: Prepare Hygiene Bags with full-size toiletries placed in a cinch sack. Please note this is an offsite activity. You will need to provide the supplies, and the kits will be made at your home, church, organization and delivered to The Samaritan Inn upon completion.

Required items include: deodorant, shampoo, shaving cream, toothbrush, toothpaste, bar soap. For a complete list of needed items, please email volunteer@saminn.org.
