Volunteer Opportunity: Nonprofit Grant Writer for Leia's Kids

About Leia’s Kids: Leia’s Kids is dedicated to improving the lives of children battling cancer and supporting their families through emotional, financial, and community-driven resources. We are expanding our programs and need your expertise to help us secure essential funding to continue our mission.

Position Overview: We are seeking a skilled volunteer Grant Writer to help Leia's Kids identify and apply for grants to support our growing initiatives, including pediatric cancer care, family support services, and mental health programs for teens. Your work will play a crucial role in ensuring the sustainability and growth of our programs.

Responsibilities: Research and identify grant opportunities from foundations, corporations, and government sources. Write compelling grant proposals and applications, tailored to each opportunity. Collaborate with the team to gather necessary information, data, and impact stories for proposals. Ensure timely submission of all proposals and maintain a calendar of upcoming grant deadlines. Track progress on awarded grants and assist in reporting outcomes to funders. Qualifications: Experience in grant writing, preferably in the nonprofit sector. Strong writing, editing, and research skills. Ability to convey the mission of Leia's Kids in a compelling and clear manner. Knowledge of grant databases and funder relations is a plus. Join Our Committee for the First Annual “Hope in the Kingdom” Royal Ball!

Leia’s Kids is seeking passionate, dedicated individuals to help us plan our First Annual “Hope in the Kingdom – A Royal Ball” in McKinney, Texas, taking place in September 2025. This elegant, community-focused event will raise funds and awareness for pediatric cancer care, family support, and mental health services for teens.

We are looking for volunteers to serve on our planning committee to assist with various aspects of the event, both virtually and in person. Whether you have expertise in event planning, fundraising, marketing, or simply a passion for supporting children and families affected by cancer, we would love for you to join us!

Key Areas of Involvement: Event Planning: Help coordinate logistics, themes, and overall event design. Fundraising: Develop and implement fundraising strategies to reach our $100,000 goal. Marketing & PR: Assist in promoting the event through social media, press releases, and community outreach. Sponsorship & Partnerships: Secure corporate sponsors and community partners to support the event. Volunteer Coordination: Recruit and manage volunteers for event day operations. Make a meaningful impact by helping Leia's Kids plan unforgettable events for families battling pediatric cancer in North Texas. Your creativity and organizational skills can bring joy to children and their families during one of the most challenging times in their lives. As an Event Planner volunteer, you'll play a crucial role in coordinating special "Crown-A-Kid" parties—celebrations designed to honor the bravery of young cancer warriors.

About Leia's Kids

Many of us know local children and families that have been affected by childhood cancer. Doctors and nurses work hard to cure patients’ cancers, but families need more than medical help to get them through this difficult time. This is the point at which the Leia’s Kids Foundation intervenes. The foundation provides direct support to children and their families who are facing the often overwhelming childhood cancer pathway.

Leia’s Kids honors each child and their family through a Crown-A-Kid party. This is a time to celebrate and encourage the child and family in the biggest battle of their lives.

Each child receives a $1,000.00 donation from the Leia’s Kids Foundation.

Offer emotional support and connect families together to form a community. We walk with families because we understand what it’s like to have a child with cancer.

Leia’s Kids focus on the whole family because cancer affects everyone! (Sometimes fighting cancer comes in the form of doing the dishes or babysitting your younger siblings while mom and dad are at the hospital.)
