The Crape Myrtle Trails of McKinney was formed in 1998. Initial plantings of Crape Myrtles were made in the medians of Eldorado Parkway from Pecan Grove Cemetery west toward Stonebridge Drive. According to Neil Sperry, founder of the Crape Myrtle Trails organization, the City has been so supportive of our dream of ultimately planting ribbons of color, not only in the medians, and along the streets but also at schools so that there will be corridors of color in June, July, and August that will set our community apart like no other.
We have also created The World Collection Park, which consists of more known species and varieties of crape myrtles in one place than anywhere else in the world.
With over 40,000 Crape Myrtles planted in McKinney it has been proclaimed as America’s Crape Myrtle City by the United States Congress!
