Letters of Light

Letters of Light is a student-run 501(c)(3) non-profit in the DFW metroplex with the mission to empower patients currently undergoing treatment for chronic and terminal illnesses. We host large scale letter-writing events with about 150 volunteers and have donated over a 1000 letters to organizations we are partnered with (Baylor Scott & White, Methodist Health System, and Texas Oncology)! Our organization also advocates for preventative healthcare where we host a session per month discussing the power of early-detection screenings and cancer awareness. We have curated our own Letters of Light Letter Guidelines system consisting of a team of 4 auditors who go through and approve the letters for shipping to hospitals and partnering organizations! Through this system, we are able to ensure all our letters reaching the hands of patients are of the highest quality. We hope to help more and more patients through treatment and educate more and more students on preventative healthcare! Our goals for LL for the upcoming year consists of hosting fundraising events for raising funds for books on coping with cancer diagnoses, positive literature on hope, etc. to donate to current chemotherapy patients! We are aspiring and aiming to raise $10,000 to make a substantial impact in patients' treatment journeys through donating books and our handwritten letters! We have a management team of 16 tirelessly working to empower patients across the country, and we just hope to build the courage of patients and let them know they are not alone as they face terminal/chronic illnesses.
